As a dog lover, it becomes too tough for us too see our dog in sickness and pain. They become too slow and eat less. There are many diseases that occur in the canine family. But there are certain diseases that afflict the dogs in particular. In this post I will be talking especially about them.
1) Arthritis
Arthritis is more common in dogs than we actually believe. Dogs have the tendency to hide their pain. So, when they start showing pain, you must realize that the situation is serious. There are, in general, two types of arthritis that afflict dogs. The first one is Degenerative Joint disease and the other one is Inflammatory Joint disease. The Degenerative joint disease affects mostly the joints, like shoulders, hips, back, neck etc. The Inflammatory Joint disease is caused by infection from fungus, bacteria or ticks. But there are many surgical treatments to cure arthritis.
2) Worms
In general there are three varieties of worms: Tap Worms, Flat Worms, and Round Worms. Round worms possess tapers on both the ends and are impossible to view with bare eyes. It is advisable that you make regular trips to a veterinarian with specialized equipment in order to diagnose any presence of round worms. Tap Worms, unlike Round worms, possess a head and tail. Dogs get infected by them when they eat rodents that have consumed fleas. Flat worms can be dangerous. They attach themselves to the intestines, liver and lungs of the animal and can cause serious problem.
3) Addison's Disease
This is a serious condition in which the body of your dog becomes unable to regulate the level of sodium in the blood. This may result in severe consequences and may even cause heart failure. The symptoms of this disease include less appetite, tremors in the body of the dog, weakness in muscles and pain in the hind body parts. In some cases, the dog may collapse for no reason at all.
4) Periodontal Disease
The Periodontal disease is a common mouth disease that afflicts dogs. But, believe it or not, it can be prevented by brushing your dog’s teeth daily. Failure to do so may result in symptoms like bad breath, bleeding gums, discolored teeth and even tooth loss.
5) Canine Cough
Canine cough is caused by many factors, but however, coughing maybe a symptom of serious diseases like heartworms, tuberculosis and coccidiosis. So, it becomes very important to notice how often your dog coughs.
