Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has entered the 2020 presidential race, announcing the formation of an exploratory committee in a video and an email to supporters early Monday morning. "And they enlisted politicians to cut them a bigger slice". "We can make our economy work for all of us".
Warren burst onto the national scene a decade ago during the financial crisis with calls for greater consumer protections, and quickly became one of the party's more prominent liberals.
Warren also addressed racial inequality in the video by noting that "families of color face a path that is steeper and rockier, a path made even harder by the impact of generations of discrimination". We can make our democracy work for all of us. "We can rebuild America's middle class-but this time, we gotta build it for everyone".
Warren has been a leading voice on the left and for years has launched withering attacks on the USA banking system, which made her a poster child of the progressive movement - but some aren't buying the narrative that Warren is a progressive hero, particularly since she failed to endorse Bernie Sanders during the 2016 primaries.
"I don't have binders full of bankers and CEOs to call for ginormous checks to launch this committee-in fact, a lot of them aren't going to like what I'm doing and will probably spend their money somewhere else. I think that is not true anymore", Warren told the Daily Beast in 2011. "Because this isn't just my fight, it's our fight".
Saudi reshuffle ordered after Khashoggi fallout
Hamad al-Sheikh, a royal court adviser and former college dean who studied in the USA , was appointed minister of education. He is set to maintain his political and security posts after Thursday's reshuffle, including that of defence minister.
In the video, the 69-year-old former law professor lays out her vision of the future, while setting herself up as a foil to President Trump and members of his administration.
Warren is the most prominent Democrat yet to make a move toward a presidential bid and has always been a favourite target of U.S. President Donald Trump. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, Kamala Harris of California, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Kirsten Gillibrand of NY. She's expected to face off against up to a dozen candidates for the position. There are many major potential Democratic candidates for 2020, but so far only Rep. John Delaney (D-Md.) and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro have said they'll likely run.
Warren is one of the most recognizable figures in the Democratic Party and a favourite target of U.S. President Donald Trump.
