In the immediate aftermath of Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray winning the Heisman Trophy, an informal survey of NFL decision-makers resulted in a loose consensus that it will be impossible to determine Murray's draft prospects until he fully commits to football - including full submission to the oftentimes nonsensical grind of the pre-draft process over spring training.
Kingsbury, of course, was still Texas Tech's head coach at the time and Murray was reportedly leaning towards his career in Major League Baseball.
Should he elect to play football over baseball, Murray would forfeit the entire $4.66-million signing bonus he received after the Athletics drafted him ninth overall this past June.
Declaring for the draft would not guarantee that Murray would choose football, and the A's would retain his professional rights, even if he tried the NFL first.

Clemson wins 2nd National Championship in three years vs Alabama, 44-16
Prior to Monday, Alabama has never lost a game by more than 14 points since coach Nick Saban (lower right) arrived in 2007. He built Clemson in Alabama's image, and now his team has emerged as the primary challenger for the crimson throne.
If Murray decides to play in NFL especially at the quarterback position teams will expect him to be all in on football and nothing else, that is the only way he will be selected in 1st round if they have those assurances.
Murray will need to make a decision in the next month.
That's assuming they can convince Murray to leave baseball behind. However, Murray's mobility makes him a really good fit for National Football League coaches who want their quarterbacks to make more plays out on the edge.
Baseball looks like it will be losing a top athlete to the NFL.
"I would love to do that", Murray said. The Cards traded up to take Josh Rosen in the top 10 past year, and he's still got a mighty bright future ahead of him. I try and keep 'em open as long as possible. He said after Oklahoma lost to the Tide in the Orange Bowl that it wasn't the appropriate time to talk about it yet.
