President Donald Trump talks to the press about the table full of fast food in the State Dining Room of the White House in Washington, Monday, Jan. 14, 2019, during a reception for the 2018 college football playoff National Champion Clemson Tigers.
Pelosi invited Trump to address lawmakers on January 3, the first day of the 116th Congress, with the State of the Union date set on January 29.
In a letter to the president, Pelosi said the annual remarks would place an undue burden on the departments responsible for security at the event, as a result of the record shutdown that began on 22 December over Trump's demand for a border wall. The shutdown affects almost 800,000 federal workers and is the longest in history. "We will have food for you to eat or food to take home".
Another fan asked Lawrence how many times he plans on returning to the White House - to which he replied, "Hopefully, a few more!"
"The sheer fact that not a single Democrat was able to show up is pretty telling as to who wants to negotiate and who doesn't", said Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), one of the nine GOP House members in attendance. I would think that's their favorite food.
The White House said Trump personally payed for the spread.
Senators are planning to skip a scheduled recess next week and stay in session if the government shutdown continues. The request applies to federal employees working on tax refunds, airport safety and inspecting food and drug supplies.
Warner: 'History will show' Trump botched shutdown talks
For the president, who visited the Texas border with Mexico on Thursday , the border situation amounts to an invasion by criminals.
The Washington Post reported that Food and Drug Administration workers also have been called to work without pay during the shutdown.
The shutdown dragged into its 25th day on Tuesday with neither Trump nor Democratic congressional leaders showing signs of bending on the topic that triggered it - funding for the wall Trump promised to build along the border with Mexico.
The wall was a signature campaign promise of his before the 2016 presidential election.
Trump needs the support of at least some Democrats in the Senate to pass funding legislation.
Keep in mind, Fox Business is supposed to be a sympathetic network, but Melissa Francis couldn't help calling out the slow GDP growth for the first quarter, and how it's being negatively impacted by the ongoing government shutdown.
"But the longer this kind of thing goes on the more drawn out it becomes, the more stretched people become and the more likely it becomes that somebody makes a mistake, which obviously nobody wants to see happen", he said.
