Huawei has unveiled today (Feb 24) the world's "fastest foldable 5G smartphone", the Mate X, it claims.
And at €2299, which is about $2,600, the Mate X is considerably more expensive than the Galaxy Fold.
Other snazzy features include a power button that doubles as a fingerprint reader.
It would be good to see LG pushing back to the sharp end of the smartphone market, as it's a company with some genuine innovation and technological prowess inside - and the more players competing for consumer dollars will just lead to better phones. This results in a relatively modern 19:5:9 aspect ratio which we see in a lot of new flagship devices.

That means much will depend on demand, which Goldman said it expected to grow by 1.4 million bpd in 2019. Brent crude futures fell 1 cent to $57.07 after touching a 2019 peak on Wednesday at $67.38.
"When the Mate X is folded, you get a 6.6" OLED screen and when it is unfolded the screen is an 8" OLED.
By default, the Mate X is an 8-inch tablet.
The Huawei Mate X uses a "Falcon Wing Hinge" design that means the hinge sits slightly recessed into the phone's chassis. I suspect it'll be more comfortable for right-handed use, given the thicker grip section s positioned on the right side. Huawei says the hinge system used in the phone is patented and has over 100 components. It's to be noted that this seems to be the weak-point of Huawei's design as it doesn't look almost as refined as Samsung's attempt. Thanks to a leak on Friday we already know what the device is and exactly what it'll look like.
All of this comes together in one futuristic phone, a phone that is a true embodiment of those dreams we had as kids and those gadgets we saw in sci-fi movies. And Huawei's MWC invite featured an image that suggested a foldable device was set to make an appearance at the confab.
There's no word yet on how much the Huawei Mate X will cost if and when it comes to Australia. Because there's two batteries, they can be charged at the same time at high charging rates. Huawei boasts that you'll be able to charge your foldable device from 0 to 85 percent within 30 minutes using this technology.
The super thin laptop is just over 14mm at its thickest point and 7.9mm at its thinnest, for the 13 inch model. All of these devices have plenty of similarities, but they're also quite different. Do you think Apple will release a foldable iPhone? It's massive, and rightly so considering the equally massive display it's expected to power, not to mention the 5G and Kirin 980 chipset. The device, called the Mate X, comes just four days after the fanfare of Samsung's similar Galaxy Fold device. For 5G connectivity, it has Huawei's own Balong 5000 5G modem which offers dual-SIM connectivity as well.
