LG has also taken the unusual step of announcing the V50 ThinQ at MWC - its V-series phones usually launch in the fall. This sensor adds a new feature called Hand ID, where the user can unlock the mobile by hovering his hand over.
The price and release date of LG G8 ThinQ and LG G8S ThinQ have not been revealed. Internally, the V50 is very similar to the G8.
The LG G8 ThinQ's Z Camera also enables a feature called Air Motion. The same 3D camera can also be used for more secure Face unlock.

Tom Cruise inspired the tech's other use case too - though this time it was Mission: Impossible that did it.
Well, it means LG's next major flagship can be unlocked by setting its front-facing camera on your hand, reading the individual lines on your palm.
Reds to face tough test against Manchester United
Smalling spurning the best of them by failing to get on the end of a Lukaku cross in the final minute of normal time. Manchester United put on a spirited display to earn a 0-0 draw with Liverpool today at Old Trafford.
It works nearly instantly - and registering a handprint only took a minute or so too - and because it uses infrared it should work great (and perhaps even better) in low light too, unlike face unlock. According to the area it's selling, the variants can have dual or triple camera setup. A 16-megapixel super wide-angle lens with whopping 107-degree field of view with an f/1.9 aperture. Well, sort of - there's no speaker grille any more, because the G8 reverberates the display itself.
"We believe in multimedia", said Kim In-kyung, a senior vice president at LG Electronics in charge of 5G and network technology at the unpack event on Sunday in Barcelona.
Finally, the speakers have been removed and replaced with a vibrating screen technology and resonance chamber that work together to make sound without taking up precious space on the front of your phone. It runs Android 9 Pie out of the box, retains the headphone jack with the high-fidelity 32-bit Hi-Fi Quad DAC built-in, and a USB Type-C charging port. The first ever 5G phone by LG.
This second screen is also OLED and measures 6.2-inches. The touchscreen case sports a conventional smartphone design with rounded corners, but with thick top and bottom bezels. It will come in red, black, and blue.
The handset is powered with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC coupled with 6GB of RAM and comes with onboard storage of 128GB which could be extended further via microSD card. At 167g it's fairly light, despite the decent 3500mAh battery, though at 8.4mm it's not the thinnest phone around.
Most of the emphasis on the LG V50 ThinQ 5G appears to be on its audio side of things, which gets DTS:X on-board and support for aptX and aptX HD, making wireless audio a little more premium provided the wireless earphones support it. Some of the moves include turning an imaginary dial in mid-air with your hand to control the volume of the device.
