Turkey's foreign minister on Tuesday blasted "some Arab countries" for their silence on U.S. President Donald Trump's move to recognise Israel's sovereignty over occupied Golan Heights, Anadolu Agency reports. Any declaration of a unilateral border change goes against the foundation of the rules-based global order and the UN Charter.
"This recognition is not conducive to efforts towards creating peace and regional stability", Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement yesterday. "Canada's long-standing position remains unchanged", the Canadian foreign ministry said.
The statement came a day after United States President Donald Trump signed a proclamation that officially recognises the Golan Heights as part of Israel.
"Israel took control of the Golan Heights in 1967 to safeguard its security from external threats".
Saudi Arabia firmly rejected Trump's decision, and affirmed its position that the Golan Heights is occupied Syrian land in accordance with relevant global resolutions.
