Tesla CEO Elon Musk revealed the Model Y crossover SUV to a crowd of cellphone-wielding fans at the company's design studio in Hawthorne, California. Long Range is said to deliver 300 miles of range, 60mph in 5.5 seconds and 130mph; the Dual-Motor AWD drops the 0-60 time to below five seconds and has 280 miles of range, while the Performance is claimed to complete the sprint in 3.5 seconds, as well as offering 150mph and 280 miles of range.
Tesla said it would debut a long-range Model Y next year with a range of 300 miles (482 km), priced at $47,000, as well as a standard version, priced at $39,000, in 2021.
The second Model-Y variant is the Long Range Rear Wheel Drive, which has a $49,000 price tag.
Elon Musk's company is promising to price the Model Y for mass-market sales, starting at $39,000 (rising to $60,000 for a "Performance" model). The standard version of the Model Y is expected to roll out in the spring of 2021. The Model Y is a compact crossover that is largely based on the preceding Model 3 sedan. The market is going insane for crossovers, particularly mid-sized crossovers, and that is right where the Model Y fits.
This blindsided employees and investors alike, and Tesla backtracked 10 days later, saying in a blog post that more stores would remain open but vehicle prices would have to rise by about 3 percent on average worldwide.
And the Model Y has no doubt been a bit of relief for Musk after a tumultuous week. That's a long ways off, and if the Model 3 roll-out process is anything to go by, that early payment may not guarantee you early delivery at all, especially if you're holding out for one of the delayed-release features.

A vigil was held at Nathan Phillips Square to honour the victims of two mass shootings at New Zealand mosques. The New Zealand police did confirm that a 28-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder.
Still, Musk said the Model Y could outsell the Model S, Model X, and Model 3 combined.
Built on the Model 3 " s platform, it's the fifth vehicle from Tesla since the Roadster kicked things off in 2008.
There will be three other versions of the SUV, including the "standard-range" model.
Looking like a hatchback version of the Model 3 sedan with a lift kit, the Model Y appears to share most of its parts with its sedan sibling.
The Model-Y comes in four options, and each is designed with a specific user in mind.
Last but not least is the Dual Motor Performance model which produces the same 280 miles of range but again improves on performance, cutting the 0 to 60 mph time to just 3.5 seconds and bumping the top speed to 150 mph. "(The new Shanghai plant) is going to be really important for making affordable versions of the Model 3 and Model Y for the greater China market", he said.
