At least 19 tornadoes swept through central Oklahoma, Texas, Missouri and Arkansas Monday, carrying warnings of "considerable" damage to homes, businesses and vehicles with the possibility of "complete destruction".
The US National Weather Service warned more bad weather could be on the way, and more than 4 million people were under a flash-flood warning or watch on Tuesday.
"Numerous intense and long-track tornadoes" are expected in the region today (May 20) and tonight, according to the National Weather Services' Storm Prediction Center (SPC). "We do have a couple of other locations: Reddings Mill is a potential location for tornado damage, Golden City, Bolivar, also in Humansville".
Floodwater closed parts of Interstate 40 in Oklahoma's Canadian County, just west of Oklahoma City, after storms hit late Monday and early Tuesday.
Schools in Stillwater will be closed Tuesday because of the flooding.
Some 22 tornadoes have been reported so far, while four people were rescued by emergency services following flooding - there have been injuries reported so far.
