The baby cut out of his mom's womb during an attack in Chicago died Friday after living for two months on life support.
"It is with great sadness that we inform you of the passing of baby Yovanny Jadiel Lopez". The teen returned April 23 to accept Clarisa Figueroa's offer of free baby clothes, they say, and, as Desiree Figueroa was showing Ochoa-Lopez a photo album of her late brother to distract her, Clarisa Figueroa sneaked up behind her and strangled her with a cord.
Authorities said the little boy died Friday after being in the hospital for more than seven weeks.
"We were just praying and praying and he opened his eyes, and his dad said, 'Oh my God, he opened his eyes!'" Cecilia Garcia, a student pastor who was assisting the family, told CNN at the time.
She and her 24-year-old daughter, Desiree Figueroa, are charged with murder in the death of the baby's mother, 19-year-old Marlen Ochoa-Lopez, and Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said Friday that he expects both women will now be charged with murder in the infant's death. Four hours later, he said, the child died as a result of brain injuries caused by a loss of oxygen when he was cut from his mother's body. Around the time the photo was taken, the baby opened his eyes. In March, she and Ochoa connected on a Facebook page for pregnant women.
The child was put on life support, according to The Associated Press, and prosecutors earlier described the newborn as being in grave condition with no brain activity.
Figueroa's boyfriend Piotr Bobak is charged with covering up the death. The infant is attached to various tubes and appears to be asleep in his father's arms.
Former Canada worldwide gets death threats for USA goal celebration criticism
Alex Morgan's five goals tied her with fellow American Michelle Akers for most goals in a single World Cup match. Curious to see if anyone apologises for this postgame", Twellman tweeted to his 327,000 followers.
The accused, who remain in custody, will be asked to enter pleas to the charges when they are next in court on June 26.
On the day of Ms Ochoa-Lopez's murder, Ms Figueroa called paramedics to her home, claiming her newborn baby was not breathing.
A picture surfaced of Figueroa smiling over the baby in hospital, after she arrived covered in blood.
Then on April 1, Figueroa told her daughter that 'she needed help killing a pregnant woman and taking a baby, ' Murphy said. Her alleged fake pregnancy plan was elaborate and she even posted photos on Facebook of an ultrasound and decorated a nursery room in her home.
She posted on the page again the following month, asking, "Who is due in May" and 'Where is the May mama's at'.
Ochoa-Lopez, 19, was discovered dead on May 15, three weeks after she'd gone missing just ahead of her due date.
