According to Variety, Taika Waititi has signed on with Marvel (and therefore Disney) to direct Thor 4. Akira will be based on the Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Katsuhiro Otomo. Hemsworth's reimagining of Thor carried forward into Infinity War and Endgame and was well received in both the Avengers movies.
Taika also directed 2017′s Thor: Ragnarok, which has brought in almost $854 million worldwide.
Unfortunately, this means that another project he was set to begin will now be pushed back indefinitely. Several sources have said that Warners is keen on keeping Waititi involved for the long term and hopes to see him pick up Akira after Thor 4. It was previously announced that a live-action film adaptation would be released via Warner Bros.in May 2021 with Taika Waititi on as director.
So far nothing further is known about the upcoming Thor movie, but it is rumored Chris Hemsworth will be reprising his role as the Thunder God.
North Korea warns USA over planned war games
Washington previously insisted on North Korea's complete denuclearisation as a condition for lifting punishing U.S. sanctions. While the main annual South Korean-U.S. exercises have been stopped, they still hold smaller drills.
After making the wonderful Hunt for the Wilderpeople, Boy, What We do In The Shadows, and Eagle vs Shark, Waititi reinvigorated the Thor franchise with a film that's, well, bonkers. Pretty much the same: "After a disappointing second venture with Thor: The Dark World, it seems Waititi has saved a superhero that was struggling to find his place in a, frankly, more interesting MCU ensemble".
Because Thor was last seen jetting off into space with the Guardians, it was rumored that he might appear in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. THR reports that the studio would like to keep Waititi involved in the film, but without confirming a new release date for Akira, things are ambiguous. Thor 4 will be push back Akira for some time.
Warners' next step for Akira is unclear. Waititi directed the beloved Thor: Ragnarok, credited by basically everyone with reviving the Thor trilogy. It's all very exciting to think about, if we're being honest, as Hemsworth's Thor has become one of the most charismatic and naturally hilarious heroes in the MCU.
