President Donald Trump said that the U.S. Navy amphibious assault ship USS Boxer destroyed an Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday that was "threatening the safety of the ship and the ship's crew".
British and US officials said that a second ship, the Liberian-flagged MV Medsar, also was seized.
The incident came just two days after Washington claimed that a USA warship downed an Iranian drone in the Strait.
Tehran has repeatedly called for the ship's release, denies the allegation that the tanker was taking oil to Syria in violation of sanctions and says Gibraltar and Britain seized the vessel on the orders of Washington.
During the interview, Baier and host Julie Banderas reviewed a statement from the British tanker's owner, Stena Bulk.
Further protection must be provided for merchant vessels, the head of the UK Chamber of Shipping said. And despite Washington's denial, if the United States was involved in the warehouse explosion, it would be a logical effort to send a message to Iran that using Iraq as a staging ground to attack USA forces, assets and allies will not be tolerated.
On Friday evening, the U.S. military was monitoring the transit of a United States commercial cargo ship through the Strait of Hormuz, initially using armed aircraft overhead, according to a USA defense official with direct knowledge of the situation.
A White House National Security Council spokesman said it was the second time in just over a week the United Kingdom had been "the target of escalatory violence" by Iran.

"We are presently unable to contact the vessel which is now heading north towards Iran", the statement said. He said "Iran is in big trouble right now" because its economy has been crippled by economic sanctions and said it would be easy to straighten out the problem, or to make it worse. The president accused Iran of "provocative and hostile" action and said the USA acted in self-defense.
Tanker tracking service Marine Traffic showed that the Swedish-owned Stena Impero last signalled its location near the Island of Larak in the highly sensitive waterway at 9:00 PM local time (1630 GMT).
Abolfazl Shekarchi, a senior armed forces spokesman, was quoted by the semi-official Tasnim news agency as saying there was no report of any "operational response" by the USS Boxer.
Neither Trump nor the Pentagon spelled out how the Boxer destroyed the drone.
Iran then retaliated a week later on July 11 by attempting to stop a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. Northern Marine Management has not been able to establish contact directly with the vessel since it was notified of the incident at approximately 1600 Today, 19th July 2019.
"We have not lost any drone in the Strait of Hormuz nor anywhere else", Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi tweeted on Thursday.
Asked before news of the seizure of the oil tankers became public if he was anxious about a broader clash with Iran in the strait, Trump replied he was not.
The U.S. and Iran have been locked in a standoff over American sanctions on Iranian oil following President Donald Trump's withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear accord previous year.
Iran has repeatedly threatened to close the Strait of Hormuz if it is attacked.
