Biehl's said the man has been questioned by police and they are attempting to glean information that will help them piece together the shooter's whereabouts after the group parted ways.
The official who identified the gunman spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity and was not authorized to discuss an ongoing investigation publicly. As the investigation continued Sunday afternoon, Democratic Sen.
Mayor Nan Whaley said she commended Dayton's first responders, and she said if officers hadn't responded "in less than a minute", many more might have died.
A vigil is also planned for 8 p.m.in the Oregon District in Dayton this evening.
Of the 27 people injured, four remained in serious condition and one person in critical, medical authorities said.
"There isn't much discrimination in the shooting", Carper said.

More rallies are planned for this weekend, starting with civil servants gathering Friday night in the main business district. One of the accused is a 33-year-old man who was also charged with assaulting a police officer, police said.
Dayton police tweeted that an active shooter situation began at 1 a.m. Sunday in a historic district that's a popular nightlife destination, but officers nearby were able to "put an end to it quickly".
Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said the shooter was wearing body armor and had additional high-capacity magazines. The shooting location was outside of a nightclub known as "Ned Peppers".
"Dayton Police could not have done a better job responding to this senseless act of violence".
Whaley commended the community for its resilience after the tornadoes six months ago and the shooting.
Law enforcement authorities have delved into the background of Crusius, who's from the Dallas suburb of Allen, and surrendered to police, giving officials a relatively unusual chance to directly interrogate a mass shooting suspect.
"I really want to - think about that minute. It's sad to me that Dayton is one of those communities as well", she said.
Whaley said she has been in touch with the White House, though not Trump directly, and with DeWine. Carper said the suspect used a long gun and fired multiple rounds. All the fatalities were outside the clubs.
