The teenager who opened fire with an assault rifle at a weekend food festival in Northern California, killing three people, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, autopsy results announced on Friday found.
But on Friday, the Santa Clara County medical examiner said Legan had died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, United States media reports said.
It's the latest twist in this sad story, and the latest parallel with the 2017 Las Vegas shooting.
According to Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee, three police officers ran towards Legan after he began opening fire with an "AK-47-type" assault rifle he had purchased legally in neighbouring Nevada. The department will await an Federal Bureau of Investigation analysis and further reports from the county coroner, which are not expected for several months.
Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said he also learned of the coroner's preliminary report Friday. Authorities say they have not yet been able to determine his motive.
He added that the officers engaged the gunman less than a minute after the first shots rang out.
Samsung Galaxy Note 10 spotted in public ahead of official launch
In a tweet , Blass indicated Samsung will sell only one Galaxy Note 10 series model in the USA with a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset. An under-screen camera is totally out of the equation as we've already seen the Note 10 with a camera hole in the front.
"There is no doubt that they eliminated the threat, which helped save lives of innocent people and ended the incident as quickly as possible", said Smithee.
Three people attending the festival were killed, including a 6-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl, and a dozen others were injured, some seriously.
Smithee insisted that the three police officers were still heroes because their timely response prevented what could have become worse.
FBI Special Agent John Bennett told reporters that computer equipment, anxiety medication, and extremist materials have been seized from Legan's residence.
The chief said officers at the chaotic scene were unaware that Legan had shot himself, and that this new revelation from the coroner doesn't diminish their heroism.
The three victims who died have been identified as 6-year-old Stephen Romero and 13-year-old Keyla Salazar, of San Jose, and 25-year-old Trevor Irby, who had recently moved to Santa Cruz from upstate NY. The suspect immediately changed his fire from the crowd towards the officers, as they were engaging in gunfire our officers did fire multiple rounds at the suspect.
