United States investigators have found "serious irregularities" at the jail in NY where Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced hedge-fund owner, killed himself last Saturday, Attorney General William Barr has said.
Barr said on Monday that initial discoveries made by investigators probing into the death of Epstein found the jail is partially responsible for the incident, vowing to "get to the bottom of what happened" and promised accountability.
"Let me assure you that this case will continue on against anyone who was complicit with Epstein", Barr said Monday.
Sasse also asked Barr to confirm that the Department of Justice does not consider Epstein's non-prosecution agreement binding with respect to any of his alleged co-conspirators.
"Epstein on suicide watch, supposedly taken off suicide watch, and still commits "suicide.' The left wants you to believe that the "government" can protect you, so you should be willing to give up the 2nd Amendment!"
Epstein's removal from suicide watch would have been approved by both the warden of the jail and the facility's chief psychologist, said Jack Donson, a former prison official who worked for the Bureau of Prisons for more than two decades.
Under that deal, Epstein pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges and served 13 months in jail, but he was allowed to leave the detention facility regularly for his office. A 2008 lawsuit in Florida accused Kellen of not only scheduling encounters between Epstein and an underage girl but of taking nude photographs of her.
Some signs of normality return to Kashmir, but India's clampdown still strict
The Indian Navy on August 10 said it is on high alert and prepared to defeat and deter any seaborne threat with full force. Some fear this may lead to a demographic and cultural change in the Muslim-majority region.
Federal authorities in NY arrested Epstein in July and charged him with sex trafficking after his private plane returned to Teterboro Airport in New Jersey from Paris.
The decision by officials at the Bureau of Prisons not to keep Mr Epstein on a suicide watch has come under scrutiny.
"It only takes three to five minutes for someone to hang themselves", said Hayes, a project director for the National Center on Institutions and Alternatives.
A financier with hundreds of millions in assets, private planes and homes around the world, Epstein entered a controversial non-prosecution agreement more than a decade ago with USA prosecutors, which barred federal charges in Florida against him and conspirators.
In addition, recently released documents reveal that Virginia Roberts Giuffre, a woman who claims she was once held as a teenage sex slave by Epstein, Virginia Roberts, was supposedly ordered to have sex with former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson of New Mexico and former U.S. Sen.
While the Justice Department metes out discipline in the wake of Epstein's death, it is also pursuing possible charges against any Epstein co-conspirators. "But he's a man with a half a million followers, a lot of followers", Trump told reporters about Williams, a comedian and conservative pundit who's been criticized in the past for saying racist things on Fox News. Barr cited "serious irregularities at this facility", but did not offer specifics. "They're locked down for 23 to 24 hours a day, they get one 15 minute call a month." .
