Every year, information is spread about the importance of flu protection. Think about getting the shot, and soon.

Bhowmick: No, but people should realize the vaccine takes two weeks to be effective, so they still could contract the flu during this period.

New efforts are being made to improve the flu shot in the Triangle. The practice exposure allows the immune system to learn how to fight the most likely viruses of that year.

Smith said past versions of the vaccine carry a roughly 50 percent effectiveness rate of fully preventing the flu.

That means some years the vaccine matches well while other years they might miss the mark. The most common comments of people are that there was tenderness/ redness at the injection site, fever or headache.

The flu is a respiratory illness caused by an influenza virus.

It is better to be safe than sorry especially when it comes to something like the flu, which can be deadly. These reactions typically last one or two days.

The flu shot is something that needs to be given every year in order to work.

If you do get sick, whether with the flu or other viruses, keep in mind to stay home, drink plenty of liquids, wash your hands frequently, and cover your cough.

The Full BIRDS OF PREY Trailer Is Pretty Damn Great
Now, the first full Birds of Prey trailer is finally here, and available to watch below in all its resplendent glory. Kathy Yan directed BIRDS OF PREY from Christina Hodson's screenplay and it will hit theaters on February 7, 2020 .

Influenza, commonly known as the flu, is a potentially serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and death, says the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The flu is deadly and risky and should be seen that way.

After the longest flu season on record in 2018, the Kentucky Department of Public Health encourages preparation. A number of local pharmacies also offer flu shots, often on a walk-in basis.

The flu shot is about $30 without insurance, but most of the time it is free with insurance.

"The vaccines we will develop could eliminate some of the guesswork in this process by protecting against multiple forms of influenza, even those we don't know exist yet", Ross said. "Eventually, you would get up to a much higher percentage of the population being vaccinated over that period of time".

"The message is clear - don't take the risk; get the vaccine". There are mild side effects, if any, when getting the shot.

'In addition to this, the World Health Organization delayed the selection of one of the strains by one month.

Vaccine hesitation is a public health concern across the nation, and William Schaffner, MD, medical director of the NFID, is adamant about changing patient perceptions. Also, some people can be infected with the flu virus but have no symptoms.
