The Hill noted that "the letter was sent shortly before Turkey began its invasion of territory in northern Syria held by USA -allied Kurdish forces last week".

Trump called the agreement "an wonderful outcome" and said he was hopeful that the ceasefire would last more than five days.
Trump said on Wednesday that he hadn't given Erdogan "a green light" to invade Syria. "Let me make sure I understand, the United States of America wants Turkey to occupy this land?"
Trump did place some sanctions on Turkey for the offensive.
