Gennady Golovkin has said he would like a third fight against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez following a tough points win against Sergiy Derevyanchenko last night in New York, GGG was not up to his usual standards after being pushed all the way to regain his IBF middleweight title in a gruelling 12 round fight.
Ultimately, I tend to lead more towards Golovkin in this fight. I feel this was not an easy fight for me.
Since his loss to Alvarez, Golovkin has only fought once, scoring a fourth-round knockout over Steve Rolls in June at Madison Square Garden. He drove Golovkin, who was never believed to have a reverse gear, backward with a series of 1-2s and appeared to have him close to a knockdown.
Judges Frank Lombardi and Eric Marlinski both scored the fight 115-112, and Kevin Morgan had it 114-112 for Golovkin, who dropped Derevyanchenko in the first round but struggled with Derevyanchenko's relentless pace for much of the fight.
While Golovkin remains a top talent, it must also be noted, however, that he is 37 years old with many rounds in the ring under his belt.
Boxer nicknamed GGG, Gennady Golovkin, openly invited Canelo duel shortly after he defeated Sergey Derevyanchenko.
Their first bout in September 2017 ended in a contentious draw, and, while the Mexican handed him his first defeat by majority decision in the rematch a year later, it was dogged by controversy after Canelo tested positive for the banned substance clenbuterol in the lead-up.
The shadow of another Alvarez fight has loomed large over this bout. After that, the Ukrainian sportsman rose his temp and started winning rounds and fought Golovkin's liver in the fought game. I secure to accumulated earn stronger in my camp. Of course, I'm very excited right now.
Cam Newton to get another opinion on injured foot
Prior to his injury, Newton was completing 56-percent of his passes for 572 yards and an interception. According to Josina Anderson , Newton is set to visit foot specialist Dr.
"I'm ready to face it all, but if Canelo is ready, just call him".
In terms of how the two match up physically, Golovkin is the slightly taller and longer fighter.
Video replays showed the cut came from a vicious left hook to the brow that had Derevyanchenko pawing at his eye to try and wipe the blood off.
And his punches had a visible effect on Golovkin, normally regarded as an iron man. Derevyanchenko was surprisingly successful at backing Golovkin up with his jab and particularly effective with his right to the body, which found a frequent landing spot beneath Golovkin's left elbow.
"The cut really changed the fight". And despite bleeding heavily from the cut between his eyelid and brow, an injury that caused the ringside doctor to twice hold up the start of rounds to check his fitness to continue, Derevyanchenko had his best moments in the last three rounds of the fight.
Every time Golovkin appeared to get Derevyanchenko in trouble, the Ukrainian dug deep and battled back with a sense of determination and a steady volley of punches.
According to CompuBox, Derevyanchenko landed more punches on Golovkin than in any of his 25 tracked fights.
That leaves Golovkin as the next lucrative option and with WBO champion Munguia linked with a step-up in weight, would his growing profile provide "GGG" with enough motivation to accept the challenge?
