Frozen 2 happens to be one of the most anticipated sequels.
While the fate of a potential third movie is still uncertain (but promising), Frozen 2 is very much alive and kicking and in cinemas now.
The movie set a November record for animated movies, and officially has the third-best opening weekend for an animated film behind Finding Dory ($135 million) and Incredibles 2 ($182 million).
Internationally, the film earned $223.2 million in 37 markets for a global cumulative of $350 million, making it the biggest opening ever for Walt Disney Animation Studios and the No. 3 animated debut of all time.
PEOPLE's special issue Frozen: Inside the Magic of Disney's Frozen 2 is available now on Amazon and wherever magazines are sold.
Six years ago, Disney and Mattel, which at the time was licensed to make Disney's "Frozen" and "Disney Princesses" franchise-related toys, were caught flat-footed by the demand for "Frozen" merchandise after the first film hit theaters during the 2013 holiday season and enjoyed major box office success.

Let It Go, the Oscar-winning showstopper from the first movie, was sung by Menzel. It won two Academy Awards, for best animated feature and original song.
Menzel went on to say it felt "good" to complete Frozen two but that she hadn't dealt with "the finality of it" yet - doesn't sound like a no to Frozen 3!
Frozen II is already proving to be following this mass appeal in numbers. We are about to find out when the sequel opens nationwide this weekend.
Actresses Idina Menzel, left, and Kristen Bell, cast members in the upcoming film "Frozen 2", pose together during a double star ceremony on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, in Los Angeles. The CinemaScore was A- for "Frozen 2", whereas "Frozen" yielded an A+.
While "Frozen II" hasn't had quite as strong reception as the first "Frozen", it is still positive with a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score and 4.5/5 on Postrak. Crowds were largely female (59%) but not extremely so. It's no secret kids watch these movies over and over again with slavish devotion, and so Frozen II's creative team led by directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee ladle out messages accordingly: In the middle of an autumnal setting where Olaf advances the question of whether change (ie, death) is to be feared, Anna launches into a song about how some things (ie, love and family) never change.
"Frozen 2" had a great weekend at the box office coming in at #1 and beating out new comers such as "A Beautiful Day In The Neighborhood" and "21 Bridges".
