Social media companies have come under pressure to take a more pro-active approach to both monitoring content on their platforms and managing so-called "screen addiction". For the influencers who make content that usually get a lot of likes but don't necessarily have large amounts of followers, they could see the competition move to a metric that they're not performing as well in. The trial run is slated to begin next week according to Mosseri. The company has tried for years to combat the competitive trend by promoting good role models via posts on its instagram account, hoping to reflect the parts of the app that are about creativity and art as opposed to self-promotion.
