The victims - all members of a Mormon family that live in northern Chihuahua state, but have US nationality - were travelling in at least two vehicles along a dirt road between Chihuahua and neighboring Sonora state when they came under attack Monday afternoon.
La Linea has strong control in the Chihuahua state and has been in a fight with elements from another criminal group called "Los Salazar", which are aligned with the Sinaloa Cartel, who have more control in Sonora State, Gen. Homero Mendoza, a top Mexican military official, said in a press conference on Wednesday morning.
"That's why we are here at this time, to be at the scene and to later have a meeting", Ebrard said.
Durazo also said police and army troops are searching for a missing child.
"Five were shot and wounded, four are in stable condition", she said.
The adult victims have been identified by United States media as Dawna Langford, 43; Christina Marie Langford Johnson, 29; and Rhonita Maria LeBaron, 30. They terrorize, ' Cochise County Sheriff Mark Dannels said.
"It was a war between the Chihuahua cartel and the Sonora cartel and these women just happened to be caught in the middle", said the family member living in Utah. Two women and two children died in the attack on those vehicles.
"Howard Jr. was in the front seat of his mother's vehicle and his bones were found kinda". Her baby, seven-month-old Faith, was found 11 hours later unharmed.
Devin Langford, whose mother and two brothers were shot to death, covered his surviving siblings, all under 14 years old, with branches in a nearby bush before going for help in La Mora, a Mormon settlement in Sonora, Mexico, NBC News reported. The dead included 6-month-old twins.

Details have emerged about the Mormon family who were shot and burnt alive during a daylight attack in Northern Mexico. The security was scaled back under the governor but it's not clear how many were there Monday.
Responding to the attack, Mr Trump said the family "got caught between two vicious drug cartels, who were shooting at each other" as he pledged U.S. support to bring the shooters to justice.

But Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador rejected that approach, saying his predecessors waged war, "and it didn't work".
"It's not in agreement with our convictions", he told reporters. "The worst thing is war". And they're a splinter group that left the church.
It was not the first time that members of the breakaway church had been attacked in northern Mexico.
