The long-awaited summit in Paris aims to find a way to end the war in eastern Ukraine, a conflict that after five years and 14,000 lives lost has emboldened the Kremlin and reshaped European geopolitics.
Zelenskiy and his Russian counterpart will meet at the ةlysée Palace today alongside European leaders for their first face-to-face talks since the comedian-turned-president took office in May. Putin and Zelensky are expected to hold a separate one-on-one meeting later.
The president also allegedly asked the Ukrainian President to suggest that Ukraine, not Russian Federation, was behind the supposed interference in the 2016 elections.
"For five years now, war has been going on in Ukraine, we are very exhausted. All I've seen is press reports that no one has validated". Mykhailo Onipchenko, a businessman, said in an interview he doubted Zelensky would succeed, "but at least he will better understand who Putin is".
In 2014, to resolve the Ukrainian crisis and promote Ukraine-Russia dialogues, Russia, Ukraine and the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) launched the Trilateral Contact Group on Ukraine and the "Normandy Format" Group as peaceful mechanisms to mitigate the conflict.
The latest Normandy Four summit was held in Berlin on October 2016. They were quickly whisked away by police.

The meeting seeks to implement accords signed in Minsk in 2015 calling for the withdrawal of heavy weapons, restoring Kiev's control of borders, wider autonomy and the holding of local elections.
Mr. Zelensky's predecessor as president, Petro O. Poroshenko, urged Mr. Zelensky to "avoid meeting one on one with Putin", who he said could never be trusted. Zelensky told Time Magazine and European publications this month that he opposed a provision that elections in eastern Ukraine would be held before Ukraine forces regained control of its border with Russian Federation.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has reiterated his desire for peace with Ukraine.
French officials say potential changes to the timeline will be discussed Monday, but stressed that the summit is aimed at fulfilling the Minsk accord - not writing a new peace deal.
The consultations had stalled since 2016 but have been revived following Zelenskiy's election.
And if he does not, he risks making Putin, who invaded Ukraine in the first place, look like the good guy in European eyes. The agreement helped to reduce the intensity of the fighting but Ukrainian soldiers and Russia-backed separatists have continued to exchange fire across World War I-style trenches along a front line that slices through eastern Ukraine. Russian Federation has also released three Ukrainian navy ships that were seized a year ago. "I'm 1,000% confident that the hack of the DNC was by Russian operatives, no one else", the SC senator told reporters on Capitol Hill. Ukraine and its Western allies accuse Moscow of supporting the separatists militarily, which it denies.
Despite the challenges, Ukraine still has the support from the European Union, its biggest foreign donor, while Merkel has strongly supported sanctions on Russian Federation.
