Before the Tigers and Buckeyes match-up in the Playstation Fiesta Bowl, though, Clemson football fans will be able to enjoy a semifinal tilt between the LSU Tigers and the Oklahoma Sooners. The Bayou Bengals are led by Heisman victor Joe Burrow, and LSU is averaging 52 points per game in its past six games.
It's worth pointing out that Burrow's first four touchdown passes were all hauled in by Justin Jefferson, so you have to tip your cap to the wideout, too.
"Yeah, I don't even wanna talk about, it to be honest", Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables said of facing LSU. "We gonna go get this for you".
Burrow had seven passing touchdowns and over 400 passing yards in the first half against the Sooners.
Trevor Lawrence was very skeptical of what became Clemson's game-winning play
The Buckeyes' offense managed 70 yards in the third quarter, but there were more controversial calls that got in the way. Ohio State went into the fourth quarter trailing 21-16, and with everything seemingly going Clemson's way.
"[Ja'Marr] Chase and Terrace Marshall has helped me become one of the best receivers in college football", Jefferson said on Christmas Eve when asked about what made him better. "Yeah, he threw for like (seven) touchdowns in the first half".
The Tigers had a late score of their own as running back John Emery Jr. ran in for six yards, making the final score 63-28.
Clemson is 4-1 outright as an underdog in its past five games and 8-1 against the spread as an underdog in its past nine.
The LSU offense totaled 692 yards while the Sooners were limited to 322 and bowed out in the CFP semi-finals for a third straight year and he fourth time in five seasons. The Tigers previously won national championships at the Superdome following the 2003 and 2007 seasons.
