County health officials announced Tuesday that the flu season's death toll has reached eight with the recent death of a 70-year- old San Diego man.
The Georgia Department of Public Health says it has confirmed more than 200 people in the state have been hospitalized because of flu this season and two sickened people have died.
"This is the second pediatric influenza death, and we are seeing a lot of influenza in children, which is unusual this time of year and reflects the strain of influenza that we're seeing in the community this season", said Turner. That week, just 11 regions reported high flu activity.
During the 2019-2020 season, at least 19 other children in that age range have died from the flu, according to the Centers for Disease Control.
The health department and Dr.McPherson say flu shots are key, and it's not too late to get one this season.
Health officials also haven't said whether the children who died had received a flu vaccine.

Young suggests getting the flu shot if you haven't already. "This death is a tragic reminder of how serious influenza can be, especially for young children, pregnant women, the elderly, and people with long-term health conditions".
Most flu vaccines available in the U.S. protect people against the 4 different influenza viruses for the 2019-2020 flu season.
The first influenza-related adult death (over 65 years of age) was reported last week.
"So it is important do do everything you can to ensure you're not passing along the flu virus to them". People who are sick with the flu often feel some or all of these symptoms; not everyone with flu will have a fever. Getting vaccinated reduces flu illnesses, doctor's visits, missed work and school days, as well as flu-related hospitalizations and deaths.
Health care workers and those in essential services are also encouraged to get the flu vaccine.
