Microsoft today announced the next generation of game console, the Xbox Series X. Previously known as Project Scarlett, the Xbox Series X is the fourth major console release from Microsoft and will be available for purchase this time next year in Holiday 2020.
It will also be backward compatible and support "thousands" of titles which are already playable on the Xbox One and other consoles.
The Xbox Series X features a bold design, one more reminiscent of a tower PC than a traditional gaming console. It also consists of a new Share button to make capturing screenshots and game clips easier. Again, not a bad thing.
Here's everything we know so far, including Xbox Series X specs, release date, price and more. Microsoft said in June that it will be "four times" more powerful than the Xbox One X and comes with more memory, higher resolution and better graphics.
"Our fastest, most powerful Xbox will set a new bar for performance, speed, and compatibility", head of Xbox Phil Spencer said on-stage during the awards ceremony.

Some experts say it's possible that talks may be suspended altogether until after the USA presidential election in November 2020. The sector is one of the most sensitive to swings in trade because numerous companies rely on China for sales and supply chains.
Ninja Theory's Senua's Saga: Hellblade II was the game used to showcase the power of the Xbox Series X, which promises "4K at 60FPS, with possibility of up to 120FPS, including support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), and 8K capability".
If you're anxious about being forced to give up your existing collection of Xbox One games, Microsoft promises full backward compatibility with "thousands" of Xbox titles across "four generations" of gaming. This means the money you spent on Xbox One over these past several years won't be wasted when you upgrade to the latest Xbox console. It will work with Xbox One, Windows 10 PCs and, of course, be included with the Series X.
A new Xbox Wireless Controller was unveiled alongside the Xbox Series X. Microsoft says it has refined the size and shape of its controller for an even wider audience. But in terms of momentum it's actually Sony which is now looking forward to the refreshing pastures of a new console more than Microsoft. But with Microsoft teasing big plans for 2020, it shouldn't be long until we hear news on this front.
Nearly all Xbox One video games will be supported on the Xbox Series X.
Rumours have always been floating around that Microsoft is planning a pared down and cheaper version of the Xbox Series X, though there are no official lines on this right now.
