The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department announced on Twitter that five unidentified people were deceased after a helicopter had crashed in Calabasas, Calif., leaving no survivors. The city of Calabasas later confirmed the former Laker and his daughter Gianna were among nine dead in the crash.
"Jeannine & I are absolutely shocked to hear of the loss of one of my favorite people & one of the best basketball minds in the history of the game!"
News as he arrived on the red carpet, telling reporters he "didn't believe" the news at first. Bryant also held the record for all-time points in the National Basketball Association, until it was surpassed by a friend and fellow legend Lebron James, the day before the crash.
