It is unclear how Ghosn, who holds French, Brazilian and Lebanese citizenship, was able to orchestrate his departure from Japan. Japanese Justice Minister Masako Mori vowed Monday, Jan. 6, 2020 to strengthen border departure checks and review bail conditions, given the flight of Ghosn. He is expected to give his side of the story in a news conference planned for Wednesday in Beirut.
The Wall Street Journal has reported that Ghosn was loaded onto the flight from Osaka in a large case for audio equipment, which was later found at the back of the cabin. Nothing had been received from Japanese prosecutors relating to an arrest warrant for his wife, who is in Beirut.
The security cameras in his house worked 24 hours a day, but it was only required that the images be submitted to the court monthly, according to the documents of the lawyers that detail the conditions of the bail of Ghosn. His lawyers in Japan said they knew nothing and felt betrayed by his actions.
Turkish interior ministry spokesman Ismail Catakli told reporters earlier, on Friday, that Ghosn was believed to have been transferred through the cargo section of the airport in Istanbul, but did not provide further details. However, since Japan has no extradition treaty with Lebanon, it is unlikely he will be sent back, according to attorney Page Pate, who handles global extradition matters.
Ghosn's initial request came after misconduct was uncovered by an internal Nissan investigation, which led to him being sacked from the firm. "The jets did not belong to but were operated by MNG Jet", the statement said.
Union govt seeks report on violent attack on JNU students, professors
The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) alleged that Left student organisations SFI, AISA and DSF were behind the violence. Wounded students at AIIMS trauma centre told me that goons entered the campus and attacked them with sticks and other weapons.
The fact that the 65-year-old fled before facing trial in Japan on financial misconduct charges was "extremely regrettable", Nissan said in a statement. "Ltd" class="local_link" target="_blank">Nissan Motor Chairman Carlos Ghosn's escape, President Michel Aoun told the Japanese ambassador Tuesday.
"Our nation's criminal justice system protects the basic human rights of an individual and properly carries out appropriate procedures to disclose the truth of various cases, and the flight of a suspect while out on bail is never justified", she said in a statement.
The consequences of this case for Nissan had been significant, it said, and another investigation by the US Securities and Exchange Commission concluded that Ghosn's conduct "was fraudulent".
Mr Ghosn, who ran Nissan until he was arrested on charges of financial misconduct in November 2018, was banned from seeing his wife while on bail.
