USA officials reported the 15th case of coronavirus in the United States on Thursday, saying the patient was among those who had been evacuated from Wuhan, China, and placed under federal quarantine at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The agency says that 700 to 800 specimens from patients can be tested with each kit. These kits could potentially avoid the delays that happen when labs have to send their samples to the CDC for testing, she said.
But the flaw was actually discovered, C.D.C. officials said, before the kits had been shipped overseas.
The US is bracing for the new coronavirus that has now struck 60,000 people worldwide to spread in the US, officials said the previous day.
A trial run in some states produced "inconclusive" results that appear to have been caused by a defective enzyme, Nancy Messonnier, director of the CDC's National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, said during a press conference, according to Reuters.
"Things may not always go as smoothly as we may like", Dr. Messonnier said.
