A person in Washington state has died of the coronavirus, officials announced Saturday - the first death in USA soil. The patient had no recent travel history or contact with people known to be infected, officials said.
A spokesperson for EvergreenHealth Medical Center, Kayse Dahl, earlier said the person died in the facility in the Seattle suburb of Kirkland, but gave no other details. "We will continue to work toward a day where no one dies from this virus". Our hearts go out to his family and friends, " Inslee said.
Officials from the Washington state and Seattle and King County health departments said more than 50 residents and staff at the Life Care Center in Kirkland are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19.
Washington state along with OR and California all reported new cases on Friday.
