Relations between China and the United States have collapsed since the outbreak of COVID-19, which has so far killed more than five million people around the world. The WHO has called on Beijing to allow it access to investigate the source.
The origins of the virus and China's response have become highly politicised, with US President Donald Trump accusing Beijing of a lack of transparency, and pushing the theory that the virus leaked from a Chinese maximum-security laboratory.
This includes, most recently, a claim by White House trade adviser Peter Navarro that China "sent hundreds of thousands" of people infected with the virus on planes to "seed" the virus around the world.
Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held a press conference on Sunday on the sidelines of the third session of the 13th National People's Congress and answered questions of journalists from home and overseas on China's foreign policy and foreign relations.
"Regretfully, in addition to the raging coronavirus, a political virus is also spreading in the United States".
If anybody thought they could use some ludicrous lawsuits to undermine China's sovereignty and dignity, or to deprive the Chinese people of their hard-won gains, they'd be daydreaming and bring disgrace to themselves.
The United States is pushing relations with China to "the brink of a new Cold War", China's Foreign Minister said on Sunday, rejecting Washington's "lies" over the coronavirus while saying Beijing was open to an worldwide effort to find its source.
The US quickly become the country with the most deaths from coronavirus in the world, with total fatalities now standing at almost 100,000, with 1.67 million confirmed cases.
Wang on Sunday repeated China's stance that Hong Kong affairs were an internal matter and said the principle of non-interference must be upheld by all countries.
New COVID-19 Case in Mason County
On Thursday, Florida COVID-19 cases experienced its highest jump in positive tests since mid-April. Of those 171 cases, 39 have recovered and the county has reported two deaths due to the virus.
"I want to say here: Don't waste precious time any longer, and don't ignore lives", Wang said.
He appealed for the two countries to instead unite in fighting the coronavirus pandemic together.
Xi said yesterday he won't let China return to its days as a planned economy, pushing back against USA criticism that the nation had failed to deliver on promised reforms.
The minister asked the U.S. to stop wasting precious time while lives are being ignored.
Seven companies and two institutions were listed for being "complicit in human rights violations and abuses committed in China's campaign of repression, mass arbitrary detention, forced labor and high-technology surveillance against Uighurs" and others, the Commerce Department said in a statement.
"We will continue to help Africa fight the pandemic, channel anti-epidemic materials as much as possible to developing countries in Africa, and consider sending a new group of medical experts to the region", Wang added.
The United States has demanded that Beijing participate in a probe into how the health crisis began, and has even threatened sanctions if China doesn't fully co-operate. "This is the choice any country with a conscience should make", he said.
Trump, who has accused the agency of being "China centric", has threatened to permanently halt funding to the World Health Organization and to reconsider his country's membership of the agency.
