Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson says she will send absentee ballot applications to all registered voters in MI for the August and November elections this year. This was done illegally and without authorization by a rogue Secretary of State.
"This nation can't be going down that path, because it's a very unsafe path to go down", says President Trump. "I also have a name, it's Jocelyn Benson", she tweeted. We need to go until at least 8 p.m., if not 9 p.m.
It's unclear what mechanism the president was referring to for withholding funding.
Two-thirds of MI voters approved a 2018 constitutional amendment that permits no-excuse absentee voting.
The president tweeted in April that Republicans should "fight very hard" against mail-in voting and warned against the "tremendous potential" for fraud - though he himself voted by absentee ballot in March's Florida primary and in NY for the 2018 midterm elections.
"We don't want anyone to do mail-in ballots", Trump repeated again on Thursday as he left the White House. That total was more than double the typical voter turnout for May elections over the previous decade.
Republicans' claims that mailing ballots to all voters creates widespread fraud is not backed up by evidence from the five states that use this method.
In a year that will see record numbers of absentee voting due to the coronavirus pandemic, the election integrity of absentee voting has become a major issue, particularly among Republicans who warn of possible voter fraud.

Officials from the Nevada secretary of state's office and Democratic Gov. Steve Sisolak's office did not immediately respond to early morning messages seeking comment.
Former federal prosecutor and CNN legal analyst Elie Honig provided a bit more detail, writing that, "Federal funds can be withheld only if (1) the funds relate to the specific state policy and (2) the funding source is new (can't interrupt an already-existing funding stream)".
Benson's office has said it's received $11.2 million from the federal government in the most recent stimulus package. "Voting by mail is easy, convenient, safe, and secure, and every voter in MI has the right to do it".
