A federal judge scheduled an emergency hearing Friday on whether the Trump administration can block publication of a book written by former national security adviser John Bolton painting an unflattering picture of President Trump as a man ill-equipped to handle his job. But a lawyer for Bolton described the government's request as surreal and impractical, particularly since copies of the book have already been released to leading news media organizations and have received substantial publicity.
The government's lawyer, David Morrell, argued that the onus was on Bolton to figure out how to pull back the book, since Bolton created the problem by abandoning the pre-publication review and keeping the government in the dark about the release date. "It certainly looks hard to me about what I can do about those books all over the country".
The White House has been vetting the manuscript since late December, and Trump has said it contains classified material - alleging any conversation involving the president is classified.
Responding to Trump's tweets, Bolton told ABC News "I think it's unbecoming of the Office of President".

He said in a statement Sunday that it's the fourth time in 15 years that there has been a spill from the pipeline on their land.
His team pointed to images of reporters wielding the book already and reading from it, and also said that Bolton went to great efforts to make sure no classified information was in the book.
The House sought Bolton's testimony, but he threatened to file a lawsuit if he was subpoenaed, and House Democrats opted not to take the matter to court. Lamberth signaled that the dates on which the information was classified may play a role in his decision.
Bolton additionally referenced press reports from recent months detailing the interest Trump expressed privately towards blocking the book. He claimed Bolton was following his own policy, in pushing for a land-swap, instead of Trump's policy.
