Saroj Khan was admitted to Mumbai's Guru Nanak Hospital in Bandra last month after developing a breathing issue. The mandatory COVID-19 test done at the hospital showed a negative result. The late Saroj Khan choreographed Kashmera's debut dance number in the film Vaastav. She worked her way up and became the first woman chief choreographer in Hindi cinema, delivering some of the biggest hits of the 1980s and 1990s such as "Mere Hathon Main", "Choli Ke Peeche" and "Dhak Dhak Karne Laga".
Khan had an illustrious career that stretched four decades, and choreographed some of Bollywood's most iconic and popular songs.
Many fans and former colleagues of Khan expressed their grief on social media following her death, including Madhuri Dixit, who wrote, "I'm devastated by the loss of my friend and guru, Saroj Khan". She not only highlighted the emotions of the song but also contributed to the characterisation of the protagonists. These lovely actors have done total justice in their dance numbers.
However, she had a lovely journey with actress Madhuri Dixit Nene.
Kareena Kapoor Khan too, penned an emotional note, remembering the important life lesson her master ji, Saroj Khan had taught her that has stayed with her as an actress. This slow beat tune is still popular among the audiences. She said her bit unadulterated and from the heart.
Another remarkable song in the film was the kathak-based Maar Dala, focused on Dixit. "I was a newcomer director and she was a respected choreographer. Saroj Khan love you always", he said.
