Maxwell, who has kept a low profile since Epstein's death in August previous year, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New Hampshire on Thursday on charges related to the financier.
"We would like to have the benefit of his statement", said Acting United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York Audrey Strauss, referring to Queen Elizabeth II's second son.
"The victims were as young as 14 years old when they were groomed and abused by Maxwell and Epstein, both of whom knew that certain victims were in fact under the age of 18, " the indictment read.

It isn't clear how long Maxwell has resided in New Hampshire, or what her connections may be to the small town of Bradford.
At least three underage girls who were sexually abused by Epstein are described in the indictment, though not identified by name. Maxwell said in a deposition that Giuffre was "totally lying". "Her arrest is a step in that direction, and it truly means that the justice system didn't forget about us".
Epstein, who was also Jewish, killed himself in a federal detention centre in NY last summer while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

In it she said she had "had no involvement in or knowledge of Epstein's alleged misconduct". As Maxwell and Epstein intended, this grooming process left the minor victims susceptible to sexual abuse.
Brad Edwards, an attorney representing Giuffre and several other Epstein victims said his clients were relieved by the charges.

The indictment details how "Victim 2" was flown into New Mexico from out of state "at Epstein's invitation" in 1996.
After Robert Maxwell's mysterious death in 1991, Mawell headed to NY, where she fell in with Epstein.
She oversaw and trained recruiters, developed recruiting plans and helped hide the activity from law enforcement, the lawsuit alleged.
"Having developed a rapport with a victim MAXWELL would try to normalize sexual abuse for a minor victim by, among other things, discussing sexual topics, undressing in front of the victim, being present when a minor victim was undressed, and/or being present for sex acts between the minor victim of Epstein", the indictment said.
