It's reported he told authorities they'd gone swimming, but his mum Naya never returned to the vessel. Comedian Jackée Harry shared her thoughts about Rivera as well since she had worked with her when she was a child.
The pair had been out on a rented pontoon boat when they made a decision to go for a swim.
The Ventura County Sheriff's Department had revealed via Twitter, "Happening now: Search for a possible drowning victim at Lake Piru". It is presumed she drowned at this time. At the time of this publication, the search was called off due to nightfall and is expected to resume at sunrise on Thursday (July 9).
Authorities had identified the missing person as Rivera in a tweet before confirming that the search would continue the following morning.
A search-and-rescue operation then started to find the "Sorry" singer, but she could not be found by Wednesday night.

The driver fought the snake with a work knife and seat belt while braking to stop his vehicle before finally killing it. They added that the snakes are protected under Queensland law, but this was a "particularly unique situation".
Though hard to get information, the young child said they had gone swimming but that her mom never got back in the boat. A dive team and air unit were deployed in response, the VCSD said.
'The son said that she had been swimming with her mother and that she got back in the boat and her mum didn't.
According to Ventura County Sheriff's Department Capt. Eric Buschow, her son is in good health.
'We're going on the belief that she did go in the water, and we've not been able to locate her.
Naya Rivera now appears in the recurring role of Collette Jones on the "Step Up" series adaptation which previously aired on YouTube Red and will air on Starz for its upcoming third season. She played Santana throughout the show's run, from 2009-2015.
While on the show, Rivera signed a record deal with Columbia Records in 2011, one of the first Glee actors to ink a solo artist contract. She and the award-winning rapper began dating in early 2013 before getting engaged later that year in October. Naya and the boy's father, Ryan Dorsey, divorced in 2018 and share custody of Josey.
