Chicago Police Chief of Detectives Brendan Deenihan said that the vehicle used in the shooting was stolen and that the three occupants, including two suspected shooters, fled on foot.
Two suspects are said to have fired in the direction of the auto from the street corner.
The shooting occurred around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, when the occupants of a black Chevy Malibu in the 1000 block of 79th Street opened fire on a group of people who had attended a funeral at that location.
Chicago Police First Deputy Supt Eric Carter said 60 bullet casings were found at the scene.
All those shot were adults.
Police said their conditions were unknown, while Chicago fire officials said at least 11 of them were listed in serious-to-critical condition.
Police have said one person of interest was taken in for questioning Tuesday night, but declined to provide further details on Wednesday.
Historic Ronaldo puts Juve on brink of ninth straight Serie A title
Just one point had separated Juventus from Lazio when Serie A returned last month following the three-month coronavirus lockdown. Cristiano Ronaldo may be 35 years old but the Portuguese superstar continues to live up to the idea that age is just a number.
The shooting came just hours after Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot confirmed that federal agents are being sent to the city to help curb the violence.
After threatening to sue if U.S. President Donald Trump acted without her permission, Lightfoot noted on Tuesday that the city would be working with federal agents to fight crime.
Lightfoot has been skeptical of federal agents being sent to Chicago due to the controversy in Portland, Ore., where the Trump administration sent federal officers after weeks of protests there over police brutality and racial injustice following the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
"Unfortunately, it appears like it was planned because as the people were coming out of the funeral home, then the shots rang out like they were literally waiting on them to come out", Hughes said.
They said one women was shot multiple times. The 65-year-old was treated at the scene.

Their identities remain unknown, and no one has been arrested in connection with the shooting. Within those, there are 747 factions and 2,500 subsets of those factions, and at any time, the superintendent said, there are "hundreds" of gang conflicts going on throughout the city.
Authorities have not released a motive behind the shooting, one of the worst in Chicago's recent history, but Wednesday they decried a cycle of violence and retaliation, saying shootings are only leading to more shootings.
