Rivera, the former New York Yankees relief pitcher and a Trump supporter, looked on as the president announced he was canceling the Florida portion of the Republican National Convention next month due to the coronavirus. Trump called Levine "a great friend of mine", and made the announcement about the first pitch with Yankees icon Mariano Rivera inside the White House press room. The president said the two of them would be heading outside to see "some lovely young Little Leaguers outside with a great future ahead of them". One of the players gave the president and Rivera a glove and ball, and they soon joined in.

Asked about Washington Nationals outfielder Juan Soto testing positive for the coronavirus, Mr Trump said he believed Soto will recover. During his Thursday evening White House briefing, Mr Trump emphasised the importance of following the health and hygiene guidance. "They're going to be able to take care of it", Trump said.

The President of the United States as well as the children are seen in the footage not wearing any face coverings or practising social distancing, just hours after Mr Trump urged American citizens to practice social distancing and wear masks.

Trump says coronavirus crisis will probably 'get worse before it gets better'
"We're asking everybody that when you are not able to socially distance, wear a mask, get a mask". The campaign said Trump talked remotely with a teacher from Frisco, Texas.

The Yankees confirmed Trump's comments on Thursday night, according to reports.

President Trump on Thursday reiterated his call for all USA citizens to wear a mask to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, which has killed more than 144,000 Americans and infected more than 4 million. Dr. Anthony Fauci, the country's top infectious disease expert, threw out the ceremonial opening pitch.

"I think it's really good that baseball is opening". "And we ask all Americans to exercise vigilance, practice social distancing, wear a mask, do whatever is necessary so we get rid of this awful situation, this terrible disease".
