The £80-million (88-million-euro) defender was arrested early Friday after what Greek police described as an "altercation" between two groups of British tourists on Mykonos.
The Hellenic Police allege one of their officers was hit as he tried to break up a disturbance on Mykonos and that the three men later resisted arrest by "pushing and beating three officers". Plain-clothes officers who were on patrol in the area rushed to stop the brawl - but Maguire is said to have mistaken the police for the attackers and lashed out at them. All English swear words against the authorities and against the work of the police.
Manchester United said in a statement that it was aware of the incident involving Maguire.
The prosecutor is considering three charges - aggravated assault, verbal assault and also the most serious one, the attempted bribery of an official.
"At this time we will be making no further comment", the club added.
