This May, SpaceX became the first private company to launch NASA astronauts to space with the Crew Dragon's Demo-2 mission. Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide and European Space Agency (ESA) astronaut Thomas Pesquet will also be accompanying them. The Crew 2 will be Robert's third trip to the infinite space, while it will only be Megan's second.
A successful end to the Demo-2 mission this weekend would restore the US's human spaceflight capabilities for the first time since the Space Shuttle program ended in 2011.
In 2014, NASA admitted two settled-value records: $4.2 billion for Boeing and $2.6 billion to SpaceX, which wanted to plan a group commendable form of the Dragon case that had just been flying payload to and from the International Space Station. © SpaceX A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifts off carrying NASA astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley inside a Crew Dragon spaceship in the Demo-2 mission, May 30, 2020.
As mentioned, Dragon is set to come back from the ISS on August 1, splashing down in the Atlantic Ocean with astronauts on board on August 2, provided weather and everything else cooperates. NASA said, "The increase of the full space station crew complement to seven members - over the previous six - will allow NASA to effectively double the amount of science that can be conducted in space".
Moderna Says COVID-19 Vaccine Worked in Monkeys
Pfizer and BioNTech's first vaccine targeted a piece of the spike protein , a structure the virus uses to infect human cells. A study by Russian scientists has shown that water can nearly completely destroy the novel coronavirus within 72 hours.
All members of this crew have previously spent time in space, but this will be McArthurs' first trip to the International Space Station. He first launched aboard space shuttle Endeavour for a visit to the station in 2008 and again aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft for Expedition 49/50 in 2016.
Dr McArthur is an oceanographer who will be making her second voyage into space. Now, after its return, the spacecraft will be part of more crew missions to the ISS. Kimbrough had joined NASA in 2000 and has completed 189 total days in space.
She previously flew in the space shuttle Atlantis on a mission to fix the Hubble Space Telescope.
