Tokyo police say the situation led them to suspect that she took her own life.
She is said to have been found by her husband, actor Taiki Nakabayashi, at their home on Sunday. Forty years old at the time of her death, she was the mother of two, including an infant boy who was born in January.
Although the star, who appeared in films like Cyborg and Midnight Eagle, did not leave a note, the outlet noted 'death by suicide is being presumed'.
'It came all of a sudden, and we are all stunned and saddened by the news, ' her talent agency, Stardust Promotion Inc., said in a statement to The Japan Times.
