East London police responded swiftly to keep a group of Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) supporters in check when they protested outside Clicks stores in Oxford Street and Gillwell Mall and in Mdantsane on Monday morning.
The EFF march to shut down all 880 Clicks outlets across the country is now taking place, watch videos below.
While the protests were peaceful, Clicks stores at the Avenues, Springs Mall and Selcourt Towers were forced to close.
The advertisement, commissioned by the TRESemme hair company and carried on the Clicks pharmacies' website, compared two photos of Black women's hair with two photos of white women's hair, labelling the Black women's hair "dry and damaged" and "frizzy and dull", while the white women's hair labelled was "fine and flat" and "normal".
The EFF has vowed to continue protesting outside Clicks outlets despite a court order against them.
A South African drug store chain has apologized for and retracted an advertisement deemed offensive toward Black people.
Several Clicks stores nationwide have been affected by the EFF's move to shut down several stores across the country.

The protest is in reaction to an advert posted on the store's website.
The Northsider journalist requested interviews from the EFF members on the ground but was denied any as they claimed they weren't allowed to speak to the media, a directive that came from the higher powers of the party.
