Starting today, Vi ads will be on TV and digital platforms, followed by a high decibel intensive multi-media campaign. "As the integration of the two businesses is now complete, it's time for a fresh start", Vodafone Group Plc CEO Nick Read said. With 1.2 billion Indians accessing the world's lowest-priced voice and data services across 500,000 villages, the ubiquitous wireless network is unmatched anywhere in India in terms of access and impact on people's lives.
Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of Aditya Birla Group & Vodafone Idea Limited said during the press briefing that the rationale for joint venture remains unchanged, which is to create a future-fit telecom player. "Vi's focus will be to deliver to citizens and businesses in India a superior network experience, better customer service and leading products and services".
"With our new brand - Vi, we stand committed to partner with government to accelerate India's progression towards a digital economy, enabling millions of citizens to connect to the digital revolution and build a better tomorrow".
"This is an important next step to launch our new unified business under a new unified brand, Vi". Crucially, Birla said that the Vodafone Idea with its "largest spectrum portfolio" along with its network investments in the form of network sites and optical fiber is "very well positioned to be benefited in the evolving market place".
Over the last two years, the telco maintained its two different brands but a combined one is expected to bring in more subscribers.
India's richest man Mukesh Ambani's telecom venture has become the largest telecom operator with almost 400 million subscribers with its cut-rate mobile data tariffs. Vodafone Idea will take up the proposal at its annual general meeting on September 30.
The telco has also deepened its partnerships with popular digital wallets PayTM, PhonePe and Amazon Pay for cashback offers, making its plans more affordable and convenient to recharge, the report said. Market leader Jio, in contrast, reported strong sequential growth - 702 bps to 41.8% - in its RMS in the April-June period, while Airtel's RMS too climbed 391 bps on-quarter to 34.8%.
On Friday, the Board of Directors of Vodafone Idea approved raising of up to Rs 25,000 crore in funds through the issue of equity shares as well as unsecured or secured debentures.
