Jon Heyman of MLB Network was the first to report on Friday morning that the Boston Red Sox were bringing back manager Alex Cora.
Cora joined the company of Terry Francona and John Farrell, guiding the Red Sox to a World Series Championship in his first season in charge in 2018.
Cora was suspended from pro baseball for a single season.
Ron Roenicke, who served as Cora's bench coach, was named the Red Sox manager.
His preexisting relationships with ownership, front office, staff and players would lend to a seamless transition back into the role from which he was dismissed 10 months ago. When Cora was dismissed four months later, talk around the team still centered upon bouncing back from what was viewed as a World Series.

These were the details of the news Apple's HomePod Mini is so popular that shipping dates are already. for this day. Curiously, these 20 million are a quarter of the projected iPhone 12 sales by the end of the year (75-80 million).
"Last year I had time to reflect and evaluate many things and I recognize how lucky I am to lead this team once again".
"Not being a part of the game of baseball, and the pain of bringing negative attention to my family and this organisation was extremely hard". I am sorry for the damage my past actions have caused and I will work hard to make this organization and its fans proud, "said Cora". It was widely reported on Thursday that it was down to Cora and Sam Fuld. Because of all that had happened, I knew that I wanted to speak with Alex once his suspension ended, but I didn't yet know if it made sense to consider him for the job as well. Our conversations were long, intense and emotional.
"Alex knows that what he did was wrong, and he regrets it", Red Sox Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom said.
"I believe that all candidates should be considered in their totality: strengths and weaknesses, achievements and failures". Although Red Sox officials said at the time that Cora had apologized to them, they did not apologize or admit wrongdoing in a statement issued by Cora's team. That is what I did with Alex in making this choice. Bloom's other big move last offseason was to trade 2018 AL MVP Mookie Betts to the Los Angeles Dodgers along with David Price as part of an effort to get the Red Sox under the threshold for baseball's collective bargaining tax.
