Democrat Joe Biden urged unity Saturday and promised "a new day for America" in his first national address since he won the tense U.S. election and ended the historically turbulent and divisive era of Donald Trump.
Johnson also singled out Vice President-elect Kamala Harris for "her historic achievement" as the first woman, first Black woman and first person of South Asian descent to win national USA office.
The community will have direct representation in the executive branch with vice president-elect Harris, who will be the first Black woman to hold the office, said Neha Dewan, national director of South Asians for Biden.
"A strong NATO is good for both North America and Europe", NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg said. "I think we've got a lot of work to do, but today we're just celebrating the one thing that has been declared".
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris took to the stage first, commencing the proceedings by reflecting on civil rights leader John Lewis.
Biden's win in Pennsylvania put him over the 270 threshold and less than an our later, the AP projected he would also win Nevada, bringing him to a total of 290 electoral votes.
In his speech, Mr Biden made a point to reach out to those who voted for President Donald Trump as he called for an end to the "harsh rhetoric" that plagued the election campaign.

The U.S. presidential election has been and is closely watched by the entire world, as its outcome decides how the world's most powerful nation interacts with the rest of the world. Harris, whose mother emigrated from India, becomes the first woman, first Black American and first Asian American to win the second highest USA office of Vice-President.
