Americans face rough times from Covid-19 through winter — CDC chief

The US has averaged 161,448 new cases daily over the last week - almost 2.5 times the summertime peak in July. USA states with the highest number of cases include Texas, California, Florida, Illinois, New York and Georgia, in that order, Worldometer shows.

According to a senior Trump administration official, the new guidelines will allow people who have come in contact to someone with the coronavirus to resume normal activity after 10 days, or seven days if they receive a negative test result.

So far, Russian Federation is the only country to approve a vaccine for the virus.

Healthcare workers and residents at long-term care centres should be first in line for the vaccines, said key government advisers.

Vaccine candidates from Pfizer and Moderna are awaiting emergency use authorizations in the U.S., with an FDA panel expected to meet about whether to authorize them on December 10 and December 17, respectively.

Deadly coronavirus could have been in the USA as early as December 2019, according to a new government study. Quarantine means staying away from other people. It said both options require the individual to be symptom-free.

That would bring the death toll to more than 336,000 by the end of this year. It was discussed Tuesday at a White House coronavirus task force meeting.

But if people do travel, the guidelines are that individuals should get a coronavirus test 1 to 3 days before travel and then 3 to 5 days after travel, combined with quarantine for seven days after arriving.

A 14-day quarantine period is still "the best way to reduce risk", said Henry Walke, incident manager for the CDC's COVID-19 response.

Scott Morrison demands apology from China over ‘falsified’ tweet on Australian army
Mr Morrison's post on WeChat went on to appeal directly to the Chinese community. "But this is not how you deal with them". Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison called the image "truly repugnant " and demanded an apology.

"In addition, a shorter quarantine period can lessen stress on the public health system, especially when new infections are rapidly rising", it noted.

"Everyone should follow this specific guidance from their local public health authorities about how long they should quarantine", Dr Walke said. "The incubation for this disease is still 14 days".

OR reported its highest number of deaths reported in a day.

The death count reported Wednesday was 2,804, surpassing the previous one-day high of 2,603 set on April 15, according to Johns Hopkins University data. More than 1 million people per week were hospitalized in November, Redfield noted.

MS since late October has had a mask mandate in certain counties where the spread of the virus was worst.

"Without additional relief, it seems likely to break, even as we enter the third surge of the virus in the Midwest and West", the letter said.

A sign reminds motorists of Los Angeles County's stay-at-home regulation.

"In no circumstances would a quarantine be discontinued before seven days", Smith said.
