The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has decided the event program and the athlete quotas for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with "breaking" - a competitive form of breakdancing, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing - being confirmed as additional sports proposed by the Paris 2024 organising committee. Weightlifting will be among those sports to lose a number of categories.
Weightlifting, which has been plagued by doping problems, saw the largest reduction of four events.
Parkour was also considered for the Paris games.
The athlete quota set for Paris 2024 is 10,500, including new sports, which is 592 fewer than that of Tokyo 2020 (11,092).
The board members also approved the inclusion of skateboarding, surfing and sport climbing, which will all debut at the Tokyo Games next year.
Breakdancing, or breaking as it is officially called in its sporting context, was part of the 2018 Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires and has its origins in hip-hop culture in NY during the Seventies.
It will be the first DanceSport event to appear at an Olympic Games, having been staged at the Youth Olympics in Buenos Aires two years ago.
Road to Qatar 2022 mapped out for Europe
All teams in the group will play each other twice in a home and away format between March and November 2021. In Group C , Northern Ireland will take on Italy , Switzerland, Bulgaria and Lithuania.
Surfing will be held more than 15,000 kilometers (9,000 miles) away in the Pacific Ocean off the beaches of Tahiti, as the International Olympic Committee already agreed in March.
While some sports substituted in some events within their existing event numbers, Bach said medal events had actually gone down from 339 to 329.
Archery will award medals in men's individual, women's individual, men's team, women's team and mixed team competitions.
The IOC said there would also be tighter controls on who can stay in the athletes village to protect the competitors.
A seven-candidate presidential election is being held this weekend and Bach said AIBA was "well aware" of the Olympic body's concerns about some of the contenders, which he did not identify.
The IOC also froze any payments to the NOC while scholarships for athletes to prepare for the Olympics will now be paid directly to them.
