But it was as Mary Ann Summers, the wholesome young character on "Gilligan's Island", that Wells found lasting fame. Wells" comely but innocent Mary Ann complemented Louise's worldly Ginger, and both became innocuous "60s TV versions of sex symbols.
She also enjoyed a lengthy theatrical career, appearing in tours of The Odd Couple, Steel Magnolias and The Vagina Monologues, among many others. During her time as a bright and shining star of stage and screen, she appeared in more than 150 series as well as a number of films and Broadway presentations. The actress went on to appear in several series following her Gilligan's Island fame, including Growing Pains, The Bold and the handsome, and Baywatch.
