NASA and SpaceX launch astronauts to space

U.S. billionaire Elon Musk's SpaceX company built the Dragon module that lifted off from the Florida spaceport on Saturday, after days of delay.

Elon Musk, who is the chief executive of SpaceX, said the teams were proceeding with countdown, despite the weather risk.

SpaceX has drastically reduced the cost of space travel by designing the first reusable rocket systems. If that doesn't work the next time is Sunday, May 31 at 12:00 p.m.

But this is not the first time NASA astronauts will wear an Omega X-33 on a mission. The craft was built under NASA's Commercial Crew Program and was developed entirely by SpaceX.

Aside from completing the most important United States launch in nearly a decade, SpaceX also managed to successfully land Falcon 9 Block 5 booster B1058 on drone ship Of Course I Still Love You (OCISLY), stationed several hundred miles down range in the Atlantic Ocean.

On Saturday, May 30th, SpaceX's Crew Dragon is destined (weather permitting) to become the first private spacecraft to carry humans into orbit.

Mr Behnken will serve as the mission's joint operations commander and take responsibility for the rendezvous, docking and undocking of the Dragon capsule, while Mr Hurley will be in charge of the launch, landing and recovery of the vehicle in his role as the Crew Dragon spacecraft commander. With Demo-2 safely in orbit, SpaceX's inaugural astronaut launch is already well on its way to replicating the extraordinary success of the ship's launch debut.

The craft is expected to rendezvous and dock, with the space station on Sunday at 3.30pm United Kingdom time.
