Louisiana expects to receive 80,000 doses of a second vaccine candidate from Moderna - which could get US approval later this month - in the first week of shipments to states.
Tens of thousands of doses of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine are officially making their way to the state of Florida this week.
VA WNYHS was selected for its ability to vaccinate large numbers of people and store the vaccines at extremely cold temperatures.
The United States, the United Kingdom, Bahrain, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait are among the countries that have approved the Pfizer and BioNTech's vaccine candidate "BNT162b2" for emergency use. Moderna's vaccine is pending FDA approval, and has reported 94.5% efficacy in trials.
In Toronto, spectators in scrubs and lab coats applauded as Anita Quidangen, a personal support worker at Toronto's Rekai Centre nursing home, received the first vaccine administered in Ontario.
Staff at Mercy's respiratory care clinic where covid-19 testing is performed also will be among the first to receive vaccinations, he said.
The vaccine will only be available to those over the age of 16, though, as there is not enough data on how it affects younger people. It doesn't expect to begin vaccinations until about the second quarter of 2021.
