It has now been announced by Showtime, the new home of Dexter, that veteran actor Clancy Brown has been signed to play Dexter's main villain in the reboot. He'll play Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of the small town of Iron Lake.
Kurt is a powerful being, but quite generous and loved by all residents of the small town. "If he's got your back, consider yourself blessed", and concludes with a menacing warning: "But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you". As well, the series will not be a direct continuation of how season 8 ended. The series finale showed Dexter Morgan faking his own death and living under a new name as a lumberjack in Oregon. We imagine that there will be something akin to a traditional Big Bad, and there could be some familiar faces from the original show that appear. "Let's be real, people found the way that show left things pretty satisfying", he said.
Even if you weren't a die-hard Dexter fan, chances are you remember the reaction to the series finale, which was, to put it lightly. a little disappointing.
Some found the final few episodes of the programme offering more questions than answers and will certainly be cheering the news that the show is getting a revival.
'This is historic': Hundreds of Google employees to form union
Union members say that Google has strayed from its original "don't be evil" mantra, and that the company must be held to account. Instead, the union's focus will be on activism within the company-pressuring Google leadership to implement workplace changes.
Although there are now no details on the plot of the revival series, we do know that Clyde Phillips is set to return as showrunner and executive producer with Marcos Siega, who previously directed nine episodes of the original series, set to return to executive produce and direct six of the 10-episodes in the limited series.
"We would only revisit this unique character if we could find a creative take that was truly worthy of the brilliant, original series", he said in a statement. "And there's always been a hope that a story would emerge that would be worth telling".
Dexter is produced by Showtime and executive produced by Phillips, Hall, John Goldwyn, Sara Colleton, Bill Carraro and Scott Reynolds.
Some of Brown's most iconic roles include playing the villain Kurgan in the film Highlander, as well as the abusive Captain Hadley in The Shawshank Redemption. What do you think is in store for Dexter Morgan in the reboot?
